Taking into consideration, the area of Bungus Valley, which is 300 square kilometres, gives it the title of the largest alpine meadow in Kashmir. Located in the Kupwara district in North Kashmir, it is among the remote valleys in Kashmir.

The area of Bangus has mainly two meadows, locally, Lakut and Bod Bungus. The Bod Bangus is the main meadow which is the larger one and the Lakut Bungus is a smaller one.

Having an elevation of around 3,000 metres, it is situated 140 kilometres away from Srinagar city. Bungus Valley landscapes are a creation of its large meadows, naked Himalayan peaks, small hamlets, pristine streams and alpine lakes in the surroundings.

Activities

How to reach Bungus?

Take a cab from Srinagar to Kupwara and thereafter to Bangus. You can also take a private taxi, up to the Bangus Valley, without any unnecessary stops. There are two routes, one from Kupwara and another from Handwara. Development on both roads is needed as the upper portions are unpaved. After reaching the end of the road, you have to walk up to the destination for up to 20 minutes.

Appropriate Time To Visit

The best time to witness Bangus Valley landscapes is from June to September. Snow accumulated in large quantities in the winter, making it difficult to visit.
