Yoga – A Union With God

Yoga is the means of perceiving reality”- Adi Shankara

Also, “Yoga is said to be the oneness of one entity with another.” – Mālinīvijayottara Tantra

The word Yoga is derived from the root word, ‘Yuj, ‘ meaning to join or attach. The earliest use of the word yoga can be seen in the Rigveda, where it can be translated as ‘to control.’

According to Panini, a Sanskrit philologian and grammarian of ancient India, the word means ‘to concentrate’.

Today, yoga finds itself divided mainly into two types, traditional and modern yoga. The former focuses on meditation and self-control whereas the latter focuses on the asnas, physical fitness and stress relief.
