If you are looking forward to visiting Kashmir soon, you must know the things to carry before you embark on your journey. Packing for Kashmir is more challenging than packing for any other trip. Depending on the season and destination, you may find yourself perplexed over keeping stylish or warm clothes; for if the day is warm in summer, the night will still be cold. And so, to visit the amazing place that Kashmir is, make sure you have these essentials with you. Listed are the essential items that you should carry with you while travelling to Kashmir:

1) A hat and gloves: The high altitude in the valley can cause dizziness, nausea, and headaches. To avoid this, one must always wear a hat and gloves.

2) Sunglasses: You will not be able to see anything without these in the sun’s glare.

3) Comfortable walking shoes: You will have to walk a lot on rough terrain in Kashmir. So, it is best if you carry comfortable walking shoes with you.

4) Carry your original id proof, sufficient cash, a power band, an extra memory card, a torch and a first-aid kit for emergencies. Ensure you have enough cash for your stay and some extra money for unforeseen circumstances.

5) Sunscreen lotion & cold cream: The sun’s rays are very strong in the valley, so one must take care of their skin by applying sunscreen lotion regularly. Similarly, a moisturiser, lip guard or cold cream is a must to keep skin healthy and hydrated during winter.

6) Camera: It is best to carry a camera with them to capture the scenic beauty, social and cultural affairs and offbeat places that are not easily accessible or found. With a camera, you also need to carry a waterproof camera bag.

Summer

Greenery surrounds the Valley during summer, with a temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius. Wear light cotton clothes, khaki, leggings, or denim jeans to match your outfit. Light woollen clothes, thermals or zippers would do for evening or night.

The Valley is a land of Sufi saints and sages with numerous holy shrines and temples. Therefore, while visiting religious places in Kashmir, keep a Headscarf to cover your head.
